Of all the volunteer work I’ve done, my work with the National Sports Center for the Disabled was by far my favorite. I would go skiing with a disabled person for a day as an “instructor” and assist them getting themselves and their equipment on the chairlift.
“I’m not special because I have only one leg. I’m special because I’m a bad-ass on skis”
Volunteering for NSCD was a no-brainer for me because you can catch me skiing pretty much every weekend in the winter. I have always loved skiing and the freedom it provides, so sharing that feeling with others, especially those who might not otherwise be able to experience it, means a lot to me. I will almost certainly be volunteering there again in the future.
