Since May, 2020, I have been working for Briva, Inc. and my primary client is the Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL), whose site logs approximately 200,000 unique sessions per year. As website administrator, my main responsibility is to make sure the site is always running smoothly. Generally this consists of scheduling backups, implementing accessibility features, updating WordPress plugins, and verifying those plugins are compatible on a test server before going live.
However, occasionally it is necessary for me to interact with the host server directly. The most notable case of this was when one of the site plugins released an update with a pretty serious exploit allowing an attacker to gain access to the host server. One such attacker attempted to gain administrative privileges, but luckily I was able to lock them out and restore a backup before any real damage could be done.
While maintaining the site does not require as large of a day to day time commitment as my past jobs, I have gained valuable experience working with WordPress, Web API, PHP, and client-server interaction. I also happen to believe that CTCL has a great cause, so I’m more than happy to contribute to its mission.
“CTCL educates students, families, counselors and the public about the accessibility of a quality post-secondary educational experience and helps students find a best-fit college that develops a lifelong love of learning.”
